Lebanese Kishk Baladi

Ingredients

  • 1–2 onions, finely chopped (small cubes)

  • 2–3 tablespoons kishk powder

  • 2–3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • Water (as needed)

  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onions
Heat the olive oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and golden brown, developing a deep, rich flavor.

  2. Add the kishk powder
Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of kishk powder and mix well with the onions so it lightly toasts and absorbs the oil.

  3. Add water gradually
Slowly pour in water while stirring continuously. Add as much or as little as you like depending on your preferred texture:

    • Less water → thicker dip

    • More water → smooth, creamy soup

    4. Season
Add salt to taste and mix well.

  4. Simmer
Let it simmer gently for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes creamy and well combined.

How to serve

  • Serve warm as a comforting soup

  • Or enjoy as a thick dip

  • Pair with toasted pita bread or toasted baguette
