Pesto Sauce recipe
Classic Homemade Basil Pesto
Few things capture the taste of summer like fresh basil pesto. With its vibrant green color, nutty aroma, and bold, garlicky flavor, this simple sauce transforms pasta, sandwiches, and roasted vegetables into something truly special.
The best part? You only need a handful of ingredients — all fresh, flavorful, and easy to find.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
6-8 cloves garlic
¼ cup pine nuts
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Instructions
Toast the Pine Nuts (Optional, but worth it!)
Toasting brings out the natural nuttiness of pine nuts and deepens their flavor. Just heat a small skillet over medium heat, add the pine nuts, and stir frequently until they turn golden and fragrant — about 2–3 minutes. Set them aside to cool.Blend the Base
In a food processor, combine the basil leaves, garlic, pine nuts, and salt. Pulse several times until the mixture is finely chopped but not yet smooth.Add the Olive Oil
With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil. Watch as the mixture transforms into a luscious, emerald-green paste.Incorporate the Parmesan
Add the freshly grated Parmesan cheese and pulse a few more times until everything is well blended. Taste and adjust the salt if needed.Serve or Store
Spoon the pesto into a jar and cover the top with a thin layer of olive oil to keep it fresh. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days — or freeze in small portions for quick meals later on.
